Hourly-paid postgraduate teachers, graduate teaching assistants and demonstrators: professional development opportunities
Postgraduates who are new to teaching at the University are offered a range of development opportunities for their teaching and supporting student learning, in a collegiate environment. Hourly-paid postgraduate teachers, graduate teaching assistants and demonstrators are encouraged to participate in the activities and provision which include:
- Induction event for Graduate Teaching Assistants
- Introduction to Learning and Teaching for Graduate Teaching Assistants
- Development workshops in equality & diversity, learning and teaching practice, research management and development, health, safety and well-being and the student experience
- Learning and Teaching Research Network
Getting By - Getting Better: Introduction to Learning and Teaching for Postgraduates who teach
Are you a postgraduate student who teaches? Do you want to learn about teaching in Higher Education? Are you looking for a professional development opportunity to help develop an academic career?
This programme is designed for postgraduate teachers who are relatively new to Higher Education teaching and those who would like a refresher course, whose role includes supporting undergraduate student learning. The programme will emphasize the practical skills required to be an effective teacher and participants will have opportunities to put into practice principles relating to delivery, design and support of student learning.
Programme content includes:
- The postgraduate teacher role
- Approaches to student learning
- Small and large group teaching
- Planning and designing learning
- Micro teaching practice
- Giving feedback to students
You will receive a course attestation, on successful completion of the course. It is anticipated therefore, that you will attend all scheduled sessions.
Dates: 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 February.
Time: All sessions are from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
